TOUR DESCRIPTION. The Golden Triangle was one of the two most illicit opium production centres in Asia. This zone covers an area of ​​about 350,000 square kilometres crossing mountains in four countries: Burma, Laos, Vietnam and Thailand (and according to some interpretations even China). Since 1950 it has been one of the largest areas of opium production in Asia. The golden triangle also marks the point where two rivers meet: the Ruak and the Mekong, and the boundary of three countries: Thailand, Laos and Burma.
Trip details. An early morning departure from the hotel in Chiang Rai. Arrival in Mae Chan to visit the “Akha” and “Yao” tribes. Then a visit of the area commonly called the GOLDEN TRIANGLE. Followed by a boat trip towards Burma and lunch in the Golden Triangle. The tour then continues in Mae Sai, on the border with Burma, with a visit to the border market where you can buy silver jewellery as well as local and Burmese handmade products. After which we go on to Chiang Saen, and visit the Opium Museum and the Wat Phra Dat Chedi Luang temple and then Wat Pa Sak. Return to Chiang Rai in the late afternoon.

This dinner with a show is known as the “Kantoke” and has roots that go back to the customs and traditions of the ancient Lanna Kingdom which once dominated what is now Northern Thailand.

Then the tour continues to the summit of Doi Inthanon. Along the road to the summit, we will stop to visit the two pagodas dedicated respectively to the King and Queen.
We will also visit the spectacular Siritharn and Wachiritharn waterfalls, plus a Karen tribal village.
We will stop at the Royal Project Research Station which is at about 2,500m above sea level where the flora and fauna are unique and the air deliciously fresh. Coming down from the mountain we will visit the local market of the Hmong tribe where you can buy some of the products that are grown within the national park. At the end of the trip we will return to the hotel in Chiang Mai.
